The Victorian Auditor General’s Office (VAGO) is a critical part of Victoria’s integrity system. Independent to Parliament, VAGO ensures the accountability of the State Government through audits and assurance reviews of public sector agencies. To achieve this, VAGO annually conducts over 530 financial audits and numerous performance audits across a diverse range of portfolios including infrastructure, transport, health and social services, education, water, local government, insurance, justice, treasury and superannuation. We have two audit portfolios within VAGO: Parliamentary Reports and Services and Financial Audit. Our audit support function is split into the Office of the Auditor-General and Corporate Services.
What's the role?
As the Manager, Governance, you’ll lead a small, collaborative team delivering high-quality governance, risk and compliance operations, drive organisational reporting, provide high quality secretariat services and oversee management of correspondence on behalf of the Auditor-General.
This is a critically important role within the Office of the Auditor-General that drives continuous improvement by applying best-practice governance and compliance principles across enterprise-wide control frameworks and secretariat services, working closely with the Audit and Risk Committee, Operational Management Group, and internal audit.
Who we're looking for
The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented governance professional with strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
They will have experience developing and maintaining enterprise-wide governance frameworks, policies and procedures, and providing high-quality secretariat support to committees.
They will demonstrate the ability to prepare accurate, well-structured reports, coordinate internal audit and assurance activities, and lead business improvement projects.
The ideal candidate will also be a collaborative leader who models professionalism, adaptability and respect, and fosters a culture of accountability, innovation and continuous learning.

Experience and Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualifications in a field such as Business, Commerce, Governance, Project Management, Communications, Accounting, Social Sciences, Public Policy or a related discipline desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in governance, compliance, and business improvement.
- Advanced proficiency and experience using the Microsoft Office suite of applications including SharePoint and Power BI.
- Experience developing and monitoring reporting dashboards.
