Who is VAGO?

The Victorian Auditor General’s Office (VAGO) is a critical part of Victoria’s integrity system. Independent to Parliament, VAGO ensures the accountability of the State Government through audits and assurance reviews of public sector agencies. To achieve this, VAGO annually conducts over 530 financial audits and numerous performance audits across a diverse range of portfolios including infrastructure, transport, health and social services, education, water, local government, insurance, justice, treasury and superannuation. Such a broad range of portfolios allows our people to gain unrivalled audit experience working throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria.

We have two audit portfolios within VAGO: Parliamentary Reports and Services and Financial Audit. Our audit support function is split into the Office of the Auditor-General and Corporate Services.  
 

What's the role?

Assistant Managers in Financial Audit are dynamic, adaptable leaders with the ability to motivate and coach others to achieve their work goals. As team leaders, they are responsible for the delivery of a work program which includes financial audits and business improvement initiatives.

 

VAGO’s Assistant Managers are rigorous and innovative in their approach to work and are motivated by the challenge of promoting continuous improvement in the Victorian public sector. They create opportunities for others to learn and develop, while actively pursuing their own professional development goals

Who we're looking for

The ideal candidate communicates effectively, providing clear and accurate explanations and conveying technical concepts in an easily understandable manner to a diverse range of stakeholders. They use initiative and sound judgement when undertaking projects and responding to and/or escalating issues. They process technical concepts comfortably, using analytical skills and professional scepticism to reason through problems. They are able to demonstrate innovative thinking and actively embraces change, actively promoting a culture of inquiry by sharing learning and knowledge.

 

They use an adaptive and professional approach when establishing and maintaining relationships, responding proactively to trends, emerging issues, risks and opportunities. Within a team, they contribute to a sense of common purpose. They model collegiate, resilient and flexible work behaviours, and are deeply committed to continuous professional development.

 

Qualifications
•    A sound working knowledge of Australian Accounting and Auditing Standards, legislative and regulatory requirements.
•    Holds a full professional membership with CPA Australia, CAANZ or the IPA
•    Experience undertaking audits or complex investigations, inquiries, or reviews.
•    Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, Science, Technology, Economics or Mathematics
