Who is VAGO?

The Victorian Auditor General’s Office (VAGO) is a critical part of Victoria’s integrity system. Independent to Parliament, VAGO ensures the accountability of the State Government through audits and assurance reviews of public sector agencies. To achieve this, VAGO annually conducts over 500 financial audits and numerous performance audits across a diverse range of portfolios including infrastructure, transport, health and social services, education, water, local government, insurance, justice, treasury and superannuation. We have two audit portfolios within VAGO: Parliamentary Reports and Services and Financial Audit. Our audit support function is split into the Office of the Auditor-General and Corporate Services.

What's the role?

In the role of Assistant Manager, Systems Assurance, you’ll work closely with our financial audit teams to enhance their understanding of our clients' IT environments, including how technology and systems are integrated into their business operations. You will identify and assess IT-related risks and support the design of effective audit responses to address those risks.  

 

Your responsibilities will include evaluating and testing General IT Controls (GITCs), information processing controls, and performing other specialized IT audit procedures. Additionally, you will contribute to innovative projects that leverage AI agents to drive transformational change and continuously improve the way IT audit supports the broader financial audit process.

Who we're looking for

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical capability and genuine interest in data analytics, technology, and developing innovative solutions to automate or streamline processes. They will lead and advocate for innovation and continuous improvement within the team and broader audit practice.  

 

They will be able to communicate effectively and with influence, with the ability to engage, collaborate with, and negotiate outcomes with stakeholders at various levels, including audit clients and senior management. They will exercise sound professional judgment and show confidence in making complex or sensitive decisions, including guiding teams through ambiguity, and assessing the implications of different courses of action.

Qualifications 

  • You must have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in IT audit, IT security, systems analysis, or carrying out IT audits to support audits of financial reports.  
  • You must be a Chartered Accountant Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, or Certified Practicing Accountant with CPA Australia, or a Certified Information Systems Auditor with ISACA.  
  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Accounting or related fields would be advantageous.
