What we do
The Auditor-General provides assurance to Parliament on the accountability and performance of the Victorian public sector.
To achieve this, VAGO annually conducts over 530 financial audits and numerous performance audits across a diverse range of portfolios including infrastructure, transport, health and social services, education, water, local government, insurance, justice, treasury and superannuation. Such a broad range of portfolios allows our people to gain unrivalled audit experience working throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Our structure
We have two audit portfolios within VAGO: Performance Audit and Financial Audit. Our audit support function is split into the Office of the Auditor-General and Corporate Services.

What you’ll do

Your main role will be to use your skills in data analysis to query, troubleshoot and transform data; in order to support the delivery of Financial Audits.
A working knowledge in Accounting and/or Auditing is essential as you will be working on a range of tasks including (but not limited to):

  • Financial Data reconciliation and troubleshooting
  • Financial Data mapping
  • Conducting walkthroughs of accounting and related systems; with a focus on system configurations and business rules
  • Assisting in the developing of data models and dashboards to support our in-house data analytics program "Empower"

Knowledge in any of the following Finance/ERP systems is highly beneficial but not essential - SAP, Oracle, FInance1, Chris21, PeopleSoft.
Knowledge in Excel, SQL, Python, Java Script, Power BI and Qlik and/or other programming languages/applications is also highly desirable but not essential. We are looking for someone who has an aptitude and interest in this area. So if you are good at an "if" statements or setting up a Pivot Table, we can teach you the rest!
